Interview Re: Uh Oh! and the album release
The original release date got pushed back, can you tell us why?
As you will hear if you click play on the video, I am not a genre based musician. Combining this fact with the many locations and programs we recorded on created a delay in mastering I had not anticipated.
As an apology for this delay I am moving forward the release of the non-album single to the 10th June.
Why release a non-album single?
In the digital age there is no reason to make people pay twice for a song outside bare faced economics. Also, it doesn't fit with the styles or the subject matter on the album. Uh Oh! is an unabashed pop song to jump around to, it's not part of the Bitter Politics tale at all.
Did you set out to make a pop record with Uh Oh?
Yes I did. In fact, it is even more specific than that! If you've ever suffered writer's block you'll know that a restrictive exercise can be very helpful. Writers do questionnaires, answer stock questions etc. I decided to write the theme song to a non-existent American TV show. Uh Oh! was the second. It's quite a lot different from the rest of the album, but hopefully I've made the album content a bit more explicit with the sampler so the millions of people who buy the single don't feel misled!
What made you decide on the title?
The subject matter is that horrible moment of fear when you realise that someone else means more to you than you do to yourself. Basically, it's about falling in love and being absolutely terrified!
So it's not an allegory, for once?
(Laughs) No. Ouch.
When is Uh Oh slated to be released?
A week before the album. On the 10th June, online only. From all your favourite stores.
